BACKGROUND: The diabetes mellitus ranks 2nd.place within the top ten causes of death in the Mexican population.According to theNational Health and Nutrition Survey 2012 (ENSANUT), there are 6.4 million Mexican adults with diabetes were identified, 9.2% of adults in Mexico have already been diagnosed with diabetes.Colorectai cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the United States.Although the incidence rate of colorectalcancer has increased rapidly worldwide during the last two decades, according with the literature, patients with diabetes mellitus have a worst outcome.OBJECTIVES: The aim of the work is to evaluate positive lymph nodes indiabetic vs.non-diabetic colon cancer T3 patients METHODS: We performed a prospective study with 85consecutive patients with T3 colon cancer andover 35years ofage,at the NationalCancer Institute.The presence of positive nodes between diabetic and no-diabetic patients was compared.RESULTS: There were85 patients with colon cancer and T3 stage, 48 were males (56.47 %) and 37 women (43.53%), average age of 47.76 years old with a range of 35 to 92 years of age.Of the 85patients, 19 were diabetics (22.35%) and 66non-diabetic (77.65%).The mean age of diabetic population is 63.6 years vs.43.18 years in non-diabetic population.43patients hadright coloncancer (50.58%), 35 patientswith left coloncancer (41.17%) andthe rectosigmoidjunetion (8.25%).Theganglionarstatus of all patients was: 36 patients NO (42.35%), 19 patients N 1 (22.35%), 30 patients N2 (35.29%).CONCLUSION: Among patients with colon cancer and DM experience significantly worse prognosis compared to non-diabetics, according with the literature.In this research there were differences between NO in diabetic patients compare with non-diabetic population.N1 was higher in diabetic patients; however N2 population was higher in non-diabetic population.These suggest that maybe the mechanism of worse prognosis is manifesting by other mechanism.We have to compare the survival in patients with in different N stages.These results underscore the need for further research to understand the mechanism that underlies this relation Fibroblasts will be presented and discussed.
