Recently there has been increased interest in neural biomarkers and the understanding the brains functional connectivity across local and tong-range networks.While structural and functional connectivity at the cortical level has received considerable attention, functional connectivity dynamics and thalamo-cortical interactions are as yet insufficiently integrated with our knowledge of largescale connectivity and regional function.An important question, yet to be answered in detail, is how typical cognitive functions, consciousness and the specific alterations in neuro-psychiatric pathologies are temporally generated across the entire brain space based on intact or altered brain structure and function, and how such measures can be statistically quantified into neural biomarkers.
