Verbal processing speed is one of the most frequent cognitive deficits associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI).Verbal processing speed deficits affects verbal memory.This study investigated a neuroplasticity approach to remediate auditory processing speed with a structured and highly repetitive computerized auditory training program in adults with a TBI.Participants were placed in an experimental or no contact control group.The experimental group received 40 hours of auditory processing training.The results demonstrated that the experimental group improved greater than the control group on measures of auditory processing speed, verbal memory, and verbal attention.The results demonstrate the effect of improved cognition following a neuroplasticity approach to cognitive remediation in adults with a TBI.
