Diabetes complications are commonly manifested in the feet as neuropathy, peripheral arterial disease, foot infections and ulcers, Charcot foot, and other deformities.Timely detection and intervention by primary care physicians and specialists such as podiatrists, vascular surgeons and wound care physicians may lead to appropriate and timely interventions, prevent further complications or even loss of limb.In this regard, the appropriate use of imaging studies, clinically relevant interpretation of findings, communication and collaboration with treating physicians may lead to improved outcomes. This presentation will utilize brief case studies to highlight the selection of appropriate imaging modalities (plain X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI, nuclear imaging) and typical findings seen in patients with peripheral arterial disease, foot infections, foot ulcers, osteomyelitis, foreign bodies in the foot, Charcot foot, and bone loss.Decision making to differentiate soft tissue infection from osteomyelitis will also be discussed.
