Botryosphaeriaceae comprises important plant pathogens and endophytes with broad host ranges that are distributed world-wide.Pathogens of this family cause leaf spots, fruit rots, shoot dieback, bud necrosis, vascular discoloration of the wood and perennial cankers in grapevine.Morphological studies and multi-gene analysis has identified 21 species belonging to Botryosphaeria, Diplodia, Dothiorella, Guignardia, Lasiodiplodia, Neofusicoccum, Phaeobotryosphaeria and Spencermartinsia, as causing disease of grapevines.However the incidence, virulence and symptoms caused by these pathogens differ significantly between countries.
