A complexity-based planning strategy for designing the most efficient synthetic routes is illustrated in Scheme 1.PS-b features a common intermediate Ⅳ,of higher degree of structural complexity,for synthesis of a collection of targets Ⅴ.In contrast,PS-a shares the common intermediate Ⅱ and requires much more parallel operations toward the same targets Ⅴ.Total syntheses of amphidinolide T1-T51 and X/Y,2 and iriomoteolide-1a3 are discussed.
