Gold nanoparticles can be readily functionalized with thiolated ligand molecules to provide them with key properties that range from solubility in complex media to catalytic activity.It is accepted that for most nanomedicine applications,the particles need to be functionalized by a mixture of ligands so to obtain all the needed properties.
