Sterols are isoprenoid-derived molecules that have essential functions in eukaryotes.Phytosterols not only serve as precursors for the synthesis of BRs and are constituents of membrane, but also function as regulator of plant development, including cell division, cell elongation, cell polarity, cellulose biosynthesis, cell wall formation, and embryonic pattern formation.Cotton fiber, which undergoes synchronous cell elongation and tremendous cellulose synthesis,is an ideal model for studying plant cell elongation and cell wall biogenesis.
