Objective: The purposes of the present study were to adapt the original English version of the Speech Handicap Index (SHI) into Chinese and investigate the validity and reliability of the translated questionnaire for Chinese-speaking patients with head and neck cancer.Methods: 42 consecutive patients in follow-up for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma completed the SHI and University of Washington Quality of Life Questionnaire (UWQIL V.04).15 patients completed both questionnaires again 10 days later to assess test-retest reliability.
