Objective: A three-dimensional (3-D) finite element model of human mandible segmental defects was established in order to study the influence of the distractive force to the newly formed mandible in the process of reconstruction of human mandible segmental defects by curvilinear distraction osteogenesis. Methods: First of all, establish a three-dimensional (3-D) finite element model of human mandible segmental defects and a three-dimensional (3-D) finite element model of a simplified simulated curvilinear distractor, and fixed them together. Thus the 3-D finite element model of curvilinear distraction osteogenesis was accomplished. Then simulated the process of curvilinear distraction osteogenesis, and Von Mises stress and the displacement of newly formed mandible were measured.
