When colloidal ellipsoids are placed at certain liquid-liquid or liquid-air interface, they will deform the fluid interface in order to fulfill the Youngs Theory. Therefore, capillary attractions between particles are produced which will drive the colloidal ellipsoids to approach each other either in a side-by-side or tip-to-tip fashion. In our previous work, we have succeeded in creating a well-defined system which strictly follow such interactions, resulting in large-scale and defect-free self-assembly.
