Multiple headspace-SPME (MHS-SPME) is a modification of SPME developed for quantitative determination of volatile compounds, especially in solid samples. This technique involves sampling repeatedly the same sample by HS-SPME.If carried out ad infinitum, all of the peak areas are summed up to get the total peak area, which corresponds to the total amount of the analyte in the sample and is therefore independent from its composition.MHS-SPME shares the same advantages as SPME.It also enables a complete recovery of the target compound and therefore the matrix effect, which commonly appears in SPME-based analysis, is avoided.
