Geastrum triplex is a common earthstar belongs to Geastrales.It was originally described from Indonesia and has been reported from all continents except Antarctica.This species has characteristic cracks (collar-like structure) on the surface of the exoperidium.Geastrum species forming this structure have been treated as G.triplex in a lump though morphological variations of G.triplex have been recognized.Therefore, Geastrum species currently recognized as G.triplex probably include several distinct species.
