Objective: Human dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) contain subsets of progenitor/stem cells with high angiogenic, neurogenic and regenerative potential useful for cell therapy. For stem cell therapy, understanding the influence of the age of MSCs on their cell properties and regenerative potential is important. In a recent study on human dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs), it has been shown that the supply of autologous pulp tissue and MSC numbers decline with donor age and that aged DPSCs lose their proliferative and migration activities, and differentiation capabilities. We have isolated dental pulp stem cell (DPSC) subsets based on their migratory response to granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF)(MDPSCs).Their higher expression of trophic factors, higher trophic effects on migration, immunomodulation and antiapoptosis and regenerative potential have been demonstrated compared to those in DPSCs.Therefore, the objective of this study is to examine the stem cell properties and stabilities of aged MDPSCs in vitro and in vivo compared with young MDPSCs.
