  Copper is vital to cell function.The influx of reduced copper ions is controlled by homologous transmembrane solute carrier transporter CTR1 (encoded by SLC31A1).CTR1 is capable of transporting other divalent metal ions and is the primary transporter for platinum-based chemotherapeutic drugs such as cisplatin (cDDP).CTR1 has previously been shown to increase the cellular uptake and sensitivity of cDDP.(-)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is one of the naturally derived agents that have been intensively studied in cancer prevention and therapy.
