Metallic atoms are known to play a vital role in several cellular environments through interacting with uncleobases.As an example of the biological system, potassium can stabilize the G-quadruplex structure in vivo and inhibit the activity of telomerase.Hydrogen bonding (HB) and metal-ligand (M-L) interactions arc known to be the major interactions in the metal related biological systems.However, it still remains a great challenge in delicately controlling the balance between the interactions of nucleobases and metallic atoms within the biological system.Thus, a fundamental insight of the interactions between metal ligands and nucleobases is necessarily needed, and further to rationally design ligands for novel biomedical applications.
