An investigation of Diaporthe species associated with sunflower in Australia led to the description of three new Diaporthe species-D.gulyae, D.kongii and D.kochmanii.Most recently, D.novem was identified from sunflower together with a further six species of Diaporthe.It is apparent that there is significant taxonomic diversity within Diaporthe from the Australian sunflower growing regions.
