Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignant tumor originating in the squamous epithelium.Elevated DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) expression was previously detected in NPC tumors indicating that aberrant DNA methylation is important for NPC pathogenesis.Using NPC clinical biopsies, we identified a differential hypermethylated gene, a transcription repressor during development.Low RNA expression of this transcription repressor was inversely correlated with the high DNA methylation level in both NPC tumors and cell lines.
