PIM-2 is a Ser/Thr kinase, generally known for its potent survival effects.Increased expression of Pim-2 was reported in several human tumors, suggesting its involvement in these tumors, and targeting PIM-2s activity was suggested as an anti-tumor therapeutic approach.Nonetheless, we have recently shown that under certain circumstances PIM-2 can increase cell cycle arrest and exhibit pro-apoptotic effects.In human cells, two isoformes of PIM-2 are expressed, 34kDa and 41 kDa,which differ at their N-terminus.Over-expression of the 34kDa isoform of PIM-2 (but not the 41kDa isoform) in various cell lines resulted in G1 arrest and increased apoptosis.
