Cortical spreading depression (CSD) is a temporary disruption of local ionic homeostasis, followed by depression that propagates slowly across the cortex.This phenomenon is believed to promote changes in cortex biochemistry and to contribute to the initiation of migraine.Blockade of NMDA recettor by MK801 is known to suppress CSD, however, this drug cannot be accepted in clinic due to its ability to block normal neuronal function.
