　　The application of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to 243 female bovine heads (Holstein milking cattle, n=167; Japanese black (JB) beef cattle, n=76) enabled classification into two types of residual cleft cysts (RCCs) on the basis of differences in MRI signal intensity: (i) fluid-filled lesions showing intensity equal to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) (hypointense and hyperintense on T1-and T2-weighted images, respectively), and (ii) solid lesions hypointense compared with cerebral parenchyma and isointense to CSF on T1-weighted images, and hypointense compared with cerebral parenchyma on T2-weighted images.
