Hormones of both adenohypophysis and neurohypophysis participate on the regulation of stress responses, and their effects have behavioral as well as neurobiological consequences. The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activity determines the intensity of stress response. Some of stress-induced deteriorating effects are well studied on animals models by behavioral methods, and the induced changes may be influenced even by systemic administration of pituitary hormones and mainly by some of their analogs.Anti-stress effects were observed in several oxytocin analogs, from which carbetocin [deamino-1-monocarba-(2-O-methyltyrosine)-oxytocin] seems to have the most promising therapeutic potential.
