  Programmed cell death (PCD) is recognized as a ubiquitous process of cellular suicide that plays key role during development and stresses response in all living cells.Although the biochemical pathways and regulation of plant PCD are not well-defined,the morphological and biochemical features resulting from plants indicate that death mechanisms in plants are operational as in animal cells.Bax inhibitor-1 (BI-1) is proposed to be a cell death suppressor that is conserved in both animals and plants,which plays a key role in plant development and biological or abiotic stress response.
