Background: Klotho,an anti-aging gene,has been extensively studied and shown a wide variety of beneficial effects by counteracting oxidative stress,inflammation and apoptosis.However,the potential roles in neuroprotective mechanism in SCI model have not been reported.Materials and methods: To investigate the effects of klotho in secondary spinal cord injury model,we used klotho-overexpressed adenovirus(Ad-kl)to infect primary neuronal cells in vitro and SCI animal model in vivo,and Ad-GFP was used as a control.Then neurologic function(BBB),histopathologic changes,oxidative stress and apoptosis were measured.
