Transient receptor potential polycystin TRPP3 is a homolog of TRPP2 (also termed PKD2) in which mutations account for 15% of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) but TRPP3 is not linked to ADPKD.We reported in 1999 that TRPP3 is a non-selective cation channel activated by Ca.TRPP3 is present in neuron cells of tongue, brain and retina, but its physiological roles have not been determined.Studies since 2006 indicate that TRPP3 is part of a channel complex stimulated by acid in a off-response manner and is involved in sour tasting but there are controversies.
