Long-distance regeneration is absent in the adult mammalian CNS, especially when spinal cord is transected completely. We recently reported that a gelatin sponge scaffold with Schwann cells (SCs) overexpressing neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) and neural stem cells (NSCs) overexpressing NT-3 high affinity receptor TrkC could constitute a NSC-derived neural network.
