In this paper, DCP-AES method was used to determine the levels of serum copper, chromium, manganese, cobalt and zinc in 92 normal subjects and 152 diabetic patients. The results showed that serum chromium significantly decreased (P <0.001), copper significantly increased (P <0.001) and cobalt increased (P <0.05) in diabetic patients. Serum chromium and fasting blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin were negatively correlated. Serum copper in diabetic patients with macrovascular and microangiopathy was significantly higher than those without the above complications (P <0.001). The former also had significantly higher ratio of copper and zinc than the latter (P <0.001). This article focuses on the chromium and copper with diabetes and its complications and clinical significance.
