宋明理学家所辟之佛教是以禅宗为代表的中国佛教,他们以为儒释之辩主要在性与天道之主题,具体可以分为成德之教与解脱之道之辨、空实之辨、本心本天之辨、天道与缘起之辨等方面。当代新儒家代表人物唐君毅对宋明儒学家之辩释儒佛的结论与依据不尽赞同,主张儒家实为心境论,为道德形而上学,即道德的形上学与形而上学论道德为一。民国著名法相唯识学家王恩洋则以为宋明理学于佛学与儒学均未能得其真髓,故宋明理学家的儒佛之辨实际上是伪问题。他同意唐君毅之道德心境的说法,然批判唐仍然以为心境与天道可以沟通互证之论。他更进一步用法相唯识学之种性论诠解儒家心性论,而用缘起论破除宋明儒学之天道本体论。对此,唐君毅以为法相唯识学为现象学式的内省之学,其学在内省的角度上看为牢不可破;然不从内省的角度看,则缘起论缺乏必然性;进而认为种性论也不能够解决儒家心性论的问题。两人的疏释于当代中国哲学之善与真的追寻不无启发。

In this regard, Tang Junyi thinks that the law-based knowledge-mindedness is the introspective science of phenomenology and its learning is unbreakable from the perspective of introspection. However, from the perspective of introspection, the theory of origin does not have the necessity; then, The theory can not solve the problem of Confucianism.
