甜叶菊Stevia ribandiana(Bertoni)Hemsl为菊科多年生草本植物。原产南美巴拉圭和乌拉圭等地,当地人民历来用其叶作为茶或咖啡等饮料的甜味剂。1931年法国学者M.Bridell和R.Lavieille首先从该植物中分离到其甜味成分,命名为甜叶菊甙(Stevoside)到1961年美国学者Fletcher等人,确定其化学结构为四环二萜类化合物。
Stevia ribandiana (Bertoni) Hemsl is a perennial herb of the Asteraceae family. Native to South America, Paraguay and Uruguay, local people have traditionally used their leaves as sweeteners for tea or coffee and other beverages. In 1931 the French scholars M. Bridle and R. Lavieille first isolated the sweet components from the plant and named Stevoside until 1961 by American scholar Fletcher et al. and determined its chemical structure as tetracyclic diterpenoids.
