When You Are Old是叶芝的经典爱情诗篇。
When You Are Old is Yeats’s classic Love Psalms. Through the imagination of the beloved, in his twilight years, the poet wrote his passionate love with his gentle strokes. Mr. Fu Hao’s translation of “When You Are Old” whispers in a touching voice to express the poet’s dedication most vividly. Nida’s theory of functional equivalence emphasizes that the response of the target audience to the translation should be consistent with that of the original reader. This paper analyzes the various translation phenomena in Fu Hao’s translation from the perspective of the theory, which helps to understand the influence of different translation works on the readers’ reactions and deepens the combination of functional equivalence theory and concrete translation practice.
