前言葱头的雄性不育于1924年已被发现。现在,国外已广泛应用葱头雄性不育系配制一代杂种,一般可增产30～50％,最高增产可达94％。并具有葱头高度整齐一致,生活力强、抗病、耐藏、质优等优点。江苏农科所在1956年进行了葱头三系的选育工作,杂种一代比其亲本增产21—35.7％。葱头是我市主要蔬菜之一,不仅作为本市淡季上市蔬菜,葱头和种子还供应不少兄弟省市,此外,我市还承担了葱头外销任务的百分之五十。
