The FOX mine started its development in 1966 and was put into production in 1970, using a deep hole sub-field method for post-hydraulic mining. During this period, a large number of tests were conducted on the suitability of filling patterns to control and alter production operations provided by the Society for Rock Mechanics Research in order to achieve pillared recovery with minimal depletion.
