苧麻是一种高产、优质多年生的天然纤维作物。我县种植苧麻有悠久的历史,而且,种植面积也大。六十年代为了提高苧麻单位面积产量,从湖南省引进黄壳早和黑皮兜两个优良品种试种、推广。一九六六年全县亩产达160斤以上。但经过多年的种植,由于苧麻是异花授粉作物,麻株变异大,混杂退化严重。麻区农户采用种子繁殖和种根繁殖,特别是种子繁殖,无法保留原来的优良种性,出现麻株矮化,麻兜发株不整齐,麻的纤维品质变差,产量有所下降。为了发展多种经营,尽快恢复发展我县苧麻生产,一九八○
