黄河中游黄土地区,汛期暴雨经常造成高含沙洪水。它具有含沙量愈高,其颗粒级配愈粗的特点。由于中游地区西北部黄土颗粒较粗,发源于该地区的河流可以出现1500公斤/立米的高含沙洪峰。向东南部黄土逐渐变细,相应地河流含沙量也逐渐减小,实测最大含沙量不超过1000公斤/立米。从一个测站断面来看,也有来沙级配随含沙量增大而变粗的趋势。
