萨克里东(N.J.Shackleton et al,1976)根据深海沉积岩芯V_(28-239)的系统古地磁测量和氧同位素分析资料,认为松山期(Matuyama epoch)的气溫较布容期(Brunhes epoch)为高,且松山期的溫度变化较为稳定,变幅也不显著,表明早第四纪时的全球性气候变化较为稳定。而自距今45万年以来,气溫的变化具有明显的冷暖周期和较大的溫度变幅。这一结论与海斯(Hays,1969)在较早时期根据深海沉积岩芯碳酸盐含量变化所获得的结论
