2013年6月1日上午,特立尼达和多巴哥共和国总理送给到访的习近平主席两件礼物,其中一件是英文版的童话书《皇帝、新娘与龙袍》,而这本书的作者就是桑丽莎。1996年,桑丽莎从她的祖国特立尼达和多巴哥共和国(以下简称特多)来到北京就读。此前,桑丽莎是特多一家国家级报社的记者。作为特多共和国到中国的第一个留学生,桑丽莎在北京语言文化大学学习。这所大学为了让留学生熟悉中国文化,经常安排他们到长安大戏院看京剧。留学生们看完戏,总要和现场懂英文的中国观众交流一下以便加深理解。
