To investigate the status of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in hepatitis B virus (HBV) infected patients and its effect on liver diseases. Methods 150 cases of HBV infection were detected by ELISA and RT-PCR anti-HCV and HCV-RNA. Results The double infection rate of HBV / HCV accounted for 14.67%. The double infection rates of chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis were significantly higher than those of acute hepatitis and virus carriers. The double infection had no obvious interference on HBV replication. Conclusions The HCV infection rate in HBV infected persons is high. HCV and HBV have synergistic pathogenicity. HCV infection has no obvious effect on HBV replication. HCV and HBV are mainly transmitted through blood and blood products
