Although the initial complete remission (CR) rate of acute leukemia is greater than 70%, the majority of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) eventually relapse. To improve their efficacy, it is necessary to understand and detect the minimal residual leukemia after treatment. There is a relationship between it and recurrence. To investigate the in vitro bioassay of a leukemia colony forming unit (CFU-L) assay as a method for the detection of minimal residual disease, the authors report the results of autologous bone marrow transplantation after CR in 58 patients with acute leukemia.
