The Baohe diamond mine, which is 25 kilometers east of the large Argyle diamond mine, has been put into operation with an annual output of about 625,000 carats of diamond and is the newest diamond mine in the world. Australia Freeport McMillan Corporation owns 80% of the shares in Baohe Diamond Mine, gem exploration and mining companies account for 20%. The mine covers an area of 250 square kilometers, located 100 kilometers southwest of Kununurra on the west bank of Lake Argyle in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Diamond alluvial deposits began to appear 18 km east of the Argyll diamond mine.
