The world economy grew rapidly in 2000-2008. As developed countries, emerging countries and developing countries have achieved record high growth rates, unemployment and poverty rates have all declined. The strong demand for raw materials in the fast-growing developing and emerging economies has pushed up commodity prices and brought returns to resource-rich countries. The world is experiencing a universal happy period. The volatility of business cycles in the advanced industrialized economies in recent years has also brought more benefits to the prospects for economic development and to the sustainability of growth
