我市稻田西瓜大量上市在7月上旬,此时市场上西瓜供大于求,每公斤只能卖0.7元左右。为保证晚稻及时插秧,又能使西瓜卖上好价钱,我们于1996年选择了16户瓜农推广西瓜的贮藏技术。到8月上旬出售西瓜,每公斤价格达1.6元～1.8元,经济效益倍增。其贮藏方法是: 选择一间明亮、通风、凉爽的房间作贮藏室。打扫干净后,地面铺一层10厘米厚的干净湿沙,于上午露水干后采摘七八成熟的西瓜(瓜太生味淡,瓜太熟则易腐),每个西瓜保留2片～3片绿叶,并注意不要碰伤瓜皮,轻摘轻放轻运,不要震动太大。瓜蔓的截断处用托布津1000倍液浸一二分钟,或在瓜蔓的横断面上沾上新鲜的草木灰浆。将经过以上处理后的西瓜轻轻排放在湿沙上,瓜与瓜之间要略留空隙,然后用湿沙加盖至西瓜高度的1/2处,瓜叶要露出。再用1％过磷酸钙浸泡过滤液和1％草木灰过滤液混合喷施,以后隔7天～8天用上述肥液喷施一次即可。
