摘要:本研究以《長发公主》海报为例,运用描述性研究方法和案例研究,旨在以视觉语法来对电影海报中的意义构建进行分析。

Tangled is adapted from Green’s Fairy Tales. It is a story of a girl named Rapunzel who is born with a magical hair. She is locked in a very subtle tower by her evil false-mother Gothel. She always longs for going out of the tower to look at the colorful lights in the sky, but Gothel never allow her. Until one day, a handsome thief Flynn Rider flees into this tower. With Flynn’s help, Rapunzel escapes from the tower. She gradually loves him and finds out the truth that she is the lost princess who is stolen by Gothel when she is an infant. For the purpose of getting away from Gothel, Rapunzel cuts her hair. Finally she reunites with her parents and happily lives with Flynn Rider.
There are some scholars studying movie posters, such as, Lv Feng, Li Yueming (2019), Peng Yi, Zhang Fan (2013). In the poster of movie Tangled, there are several vectors formed by means of the expression represented in participants’ eyes. Rapunzel stares at the beautiful and bright lights in the sky with an excited look. Her action is accounted as a vector which explains that she is bursting with curiosity about the lights and glad to see them. And her action further implies the unusual relationship between the lights and Rapunzel. Flynn gazes admiringly at Rapunzel standing before him, which shapes a vector. The expression in his eyes delivers the truth that he indulges himself in her beautiful hair and he loves her very much. From a perspective of a spectator, Max watches Rapunzel and Flynn, which constitutes a vector. Rapunzel’s hair also forms a vector connecting Rapunzel with the castle. The vector discloses the fact that Rapunzel is the lost princess in the castle. Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that the image belongs to reaction process and it is transitive. Rapunzel’s golden hair is a carrier, implying a strong magic that can do everything, so the symbolic attributive process is mentioned. And her hair also presents that she is one of the main figures in this movie.
In the poster of movie Tangled, there is no eye contact between the three represented participants and viewers, and consequently this image notices the offer act rather than the demand act. The three main characters totally takes up about one fourth of the whole frame and the upper parts of their bodies are presented, so the social distance is a far one through the long shot. The poster is designed from the frontal angle, which gives viewers an expression of involvement. And the poster takes full advantage of the equal eye level. This level passes a sense of friendliness and gets the represented participants and audience closer. The color of the poster’s background focus on non-saturated blue, which interprets that it is an imaginary story and doesn’t exist in the real world. But the colors of the lights in the sky, her hair and the title apply the bright and golden color which is highly saturated. It manages to convey that the movie is able to turn the fairy tale into a reality as long as viewers go to cinema. For poster of film Tangled, the lights floating from the castle connect the castle and Rapunzel. This is ideal. The appearance of them aims to tell the plot that Rapunzel is the stolen princess of the castle. The title is put at the bottom, which is real. There is a picture made up of the three main figures, and it is the core content of the poster. The poster is the combination of the foreground and the background. The castle serves as the background. It plays an indispensable role in the princess movies. The foreground is a picture of the three characters. In this poster, Rapunzel’s long hair is very prominent and noteworthy. The salience of the language is the title. Its size is very big and its color is the same as the hair. The objection of doing this is to attract viewers’ attention.
The thesis is to explain how the modalities on movie poster work together perfectly to compose whole meaning. The thesis has theoretical and practical meanings.
