对于害虫的防治,人們一向以为最有效的方法就是用杀虫药剂直接把它們杀死。但是用杀虫药剂的防治总不可能把害虫全部杀死,留下的一部分,到第二年由于繁殖迅速又会恢复和增加到原来的水平。結果几乎每年都要防治,却还不能达到彻底消灭害虫的目的。在十年前,有些人提出了一个新的想法:这就是用某些方法让害虫失去繁殖能力,以至不能生育,来达到彻底消灭害虫。
