Zu Di was a man with a great aspiration when he was young. He was known for “waking up after the cock crow for the swordplay”. Every morning he woke up with the cock crow and awoke his friend， saying： “Listen， the cock is encouraging us to work hard to improve our skills.”
Then， the two got up and began to practice their swordplay and other skills with the hope that they could use these skills for the country.
Later， the tribes of Xiongnu occupied the Central Plains of China and destroyed the Western Jin Dynasty. The lord of Eastern Jin was pleased to defend his small domain on the south of Yangtze River and never thought of claiming back the lost land. Zu Di， still a man without governmental titles， overcame many difficulties and organized a voluntary troop. The men crossed the Yangtze River. And when the ship arrived at the midsection of the river， Zu Di hit the side of the ship with the oar and said loudly： “If I cannot take back the Centrals Plains， I will not cross the river back again.”
Zu Di and his troops fought the foreign invaders bravely and violently. They spent several years taking back a large traction of land between the Yangtze River and Yellow River.
