胡夷之别与胡服骑射在东北地区古老的民族谱系中,除了我们熟知的东夷系统外,还有一支不可忽视的东胡系统。如果按照古代文献的记载加以区分的话,这一时期的东北古族可分为“胡、夷”两大系。属于东夷谱系的肃慎、秽貊,主要活动在东北的东部,并于长白山山脉的分布相关联;属于东胡谱系的山戎、北狄、乌桓、鲜卑,则主要分布在东北西部,即沿着大兴安岭山脉的南北走向,以及东西两翼的蒙古草原和松嫩平原。
