Akzo Nobel signed a framework agreement on December 3 to establish a monochloroacetic acid plant in the Jiangsu Taixing Economic Development Zone. This wholly-owned plant with an annual output of 25,000 tons of monochloroacetic acid has an investment of 20 million euros. The construction of the project will begin in June 2000 and will be available for the domestic market from 2002 onwards. AkzoNobel is the world’s largest producer of monochloroacetic acid products, with factories in Sweden and the Netherlands, and a joint venture Denak in Japan. Akio Nobel, a member of Akzo Nobel’s management committee responsible for the chemicals business, said: "This move is in line with China’s development of world-class business.
