On May 12, 2005, Approved by the International Wetlands Convention Organization, Zhalin Lake and Eling Lake, located in the Three Rivers National Nature Reserve of Qinghai Province, are listed in the List of Important Wetlands of the World. The Zaling Lake and the Eling Lake, located in Maduo County, Guoluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, are both naturally occurring freshwater lakes in the Heyuan area of the Yellow River. The two lakes are located in the semi-arid region of the alpine region of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The Yellow River passes through the two lakes, which are natural lakes on the mainstream of the Yellow River.
