The South-to-North Water Diversion Office of the State Council has seen a personnel change in February. Its deputy director Lin Jincheng was removed from his post, which was taken by Yu Youjun.
Yu Youjun, 58, was born in Jiangsu. He has the PhD in philosophy and once served as mayor of Shenzhen, vice governor of Hunan, governor of Shanxi and Vice Minister of Culture. When he took the governor of Shanxi, the province was haunted by severe mine accidents, which forced him to apologize to the victims and their relatives.
The frequent mine accidents finally ended his tenure in Shanxi. In August 2007, he was appointed Vice Minister of Culture, but he failed to be promoted to Minister of Culture one year later despite being a prospect. In 2008, he was said to earn a large amount of benefits in an improper way when he was mayor of Shenzhen and was removed from his current post.
From then on Yu Youjun disappeared from the public. His name was once again mentioned due to this appointment, which still kept a low profile.
