Recently, China Telecom Shanghai announced the debut of its “E-Surfing Cloud Card” – a prepaid 3G card. The product, a milestone for China Telecom, was favored and affirmed by users upon its initiation as more than 500 thousand cards were sold on the first day.
Along with the debut of E-Surfing Cloud Card, the “Festival of E-Surfing Smart Phones” was moving to its top. A new wave of buying smart phones of China Telecom was sparked by the campaigns like “The time-limited scare buying”, “Good gifts for phone buyers” and “Drastic price decrease for bestselling mobile phones”.
The launch of E-Surfing Cloud Card and the “Festival of E-Surfing Smart Phones” signify the confidence and ambition of China Telecom to promote the business related with mobile Internet and 3G smart phones. With high-quality 3G network, abundant applications, favorable allowances and tailor-made products, China Telecom is gradually gaining upper hand in the 3G market though it is a latecomer.
The Milestone E-Surfing Card
On September 25, China Telecom Shanghai held the “Launching Conference of E-Surfing Cloud Card”. The ESurfing Fly-Young Cloud Card launched in the conference is tailor made for young men and businessmen with three packages with the montly flat rate of CNY 19, 49 and 89. The cards contain the prepaid communication fees of CNY 50-100, which can be used after buying the cards. The three packages can respectively send free communication services maximally valuing CNY 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000. Card buyers are additionally given the 15Gb E-surfing cloud storage space and a free 189 mail account. Then, if users order the E- Surfing Cloud Card via the online business hall of China Telecom, they will have 1Gb Internet traffic without any additional charges.
The E-Surfing Cloud Card is the first 3G fast consumer product with uniformly-arranged packages and high communication allowances. The packages with the flat rate of CNY 19-89 per month lowers the threshold of 3G. Users can choose any of the three packages. The features of paying communication fees for immediate use turn the telecom business into products for retail, giving consumers more convenient choices and simplifying dealers’ sale. This would definitely bring E-Surfing 3G to more users quickly.
It is known that over 500 thousand cards were sold on the first day. Over 60 thousand cards were sold through Suning Appliance.
Simultaneously, China Telecom also launched the “Festival of E-Surfing Smart Phones” in the whole country, which lasted from September 25 to October 31, during which iPhone 4S, big-screen smart phones and duo-SIM mobile phones were sold with wonderful discounts and good gifts.
Several smart phones saw their price drop and some of them were CNY 1000 cheaper than before. Driven by the favorable conditions, many consumers hurried to buy China Telecom’s smart phones. Then, the new segment number of 181 based on the “E-Surfing Cloud Card”also brings a lot of new promotional measures, like“free communication fees with Cloud Cards”, “contending for the 181-number with great discounts” and so on.
Prior to that, China Telecom announced that it would take lead in introducing iPhone5 into China. On September 19, China Telecom began to lower the price of its iPhone 4S with the largest price drop of CNY 2000. After the price drop, the iPhone 4S with the storage spaces of 16Gb, 32Gb and 64Gb were sold respectively at CNY 4,480, 4,680 and 4,880. Meanwhile, China Telecom Shanghai has already purchased a patch of Nano SIM cards. From October 1 to the end of this year, users can hold their iPhone5 and ID cards to 32 designated business halls of China Telecom in Shanghai for the free change of Nano SIM cards.
