In recent decades, the medieval city sites have been fiercely pirated by relics of cultural relics excavators, leaving cultural sites and ancient architectural sites destroyed. The rare artifacts that these thieves found with metal detectors have become collectibles for some relic artistes, leaving science with a loss of unique research material - all of which today have become a catastrophe for the entire Russian archeology community. Within the Primorye Territory, many well-known sites have been reduced to prey to antiquarian diggers without expert investigation. The first to be robbed is the Nerezhsk city site.
